Rievaulx Abbey, set in a remote valley in the North York Moors National Park, is one of the most complete and atmospheric abbey ruins in England. It is a popular visitor attraction where you will learn about monks in medieval times and how they devoted their lives to spirituality while establishing a thriving business. Go on a free audio tour that will reveal 900 years of fascinating history about the abbey and its inhabitants. Afterwards take a stroll around the beautiful, picturesque grounds which has a sensory garden filled with scented culinary herbs and a number of picnic tables. But if you haven’t got a picnic with you, you could always head to the café for some delicious refreshments.
