Rievaulx Abbey, set in a remote valley in the North York Moors National Park, is one of the most complete and atmospheric abbey ruins in England. It is a popular visitor attraction where you will learn about monks in medieval times and how they devoted their lives to spirituality while establishing a thriving business. Go on a free audio tour that will reveal 900 years of fascinating history about the abbey and its inhabitants. Afterwards take a stroll around the beautiful, picturesque grounds which has a sensory garden filled with scented culinary herbs and a number of picnic tables. But if you haven’t got a picnic with you, you could always head to the café for some delicious refreshments.
Entrance is free for members and for non-members £6.00 for adults and £3.60 for children. This is amazing value as the whole family could spend an entire day out here at this wonderful site. The abbey also has exhibitions and holds many events you can take part in such as Medieval Music & Minstrels, an Abbey Quest and workshops.
