Learn how miners worked underground in cramped and dangerous conditions to earn a meagre living by extracting lead ore.

Imagine what it was like working in the mine as you see a display of tools the miners used and the clothes they wore. Crawl and climb through a maze of twisted tunnels and shafts and experience for yourself the cramped conditions of a Derbyshire lead miner.

Read about the strange and ancient laws that controlled the miner’s lives and marvel at a history dating back over 2000 years to the Roman times.

The museum also houses a local information point for Peak District attractions such as accommodation, attractions and ‘what’s on’.

Opening Times: Summer: 10am to 5pm daily
Winter: 11am to 3pm Wednesday, Thursday and Friday
11am to 4pm Saturday and Sunday.

The museum has two levels with a household flight of stairs between. The ground floor is fully accessible. There is a stair-lift for access to the upper level and a wheelchair upstairs.
