Learn about one of the great English poets John Clare at this preserved thatch-roofed cottage tucked away in the village of Helpston, where John Clare lived for forty years from 1793 until 1832.

Enter the small rooms of the cottage and learn how the peasant poet lived, toiled and wrote here. See some fine examples of his work and imagine what life would have been like as you walk around the cottage, set in a 19th-century rural English style. Enjoy the audio tours, the arts and crafts area and the educational play area for children. There is also a small lending library on site.

After visiting the cottage, enjoy the atmosphere of the café where friendly staff will serve you delicious snacks such as soup, scones and cakes.

This museum makes a great family day out as it is an unusual and interesting place to visit.

Opening Times: The cottage is open Friday, Saturday and Monday, 11am to 4pm. Last entry to the Cottage 3pm.
