Chelmsford Museum
Have you visited yet? The museum recently opened a modern and spacious building next to the Victorian House which has doubled its size. The building fits beautifully into Oaklands Park which has new playgrounds and tennis courts. Car parking is free. Entry to the museum also remains free. The Museum has vending machines and a small shop.
New exhibitions include:
- Bright Sparks – a look at Chelmsford’s world beating industries, including Marconi’s, Hoffmanns and Cromptons
- hands-on interactives – find out what a radio wave is, how electricity works, and how Hoffmanns ball bearings defeated the force of friction!
- The Essex Regiment Museum
We also tell the archaeological and local history story of the county town and borough, from the Ice Ages up to the present day. Watch old cine film footage of Chelmsford Carnival whilst your children dress up! See our natural history displays, the much-loved brown Russian bear, Boris, and our live observation beehive.
Opening Times: Mondays to Saturdays 10-5pm (closed Fridays term time), and Sundays 1-4pm
