Bredgar and Wormshill Light Railway
Bredgar Railway is not really aimed at the “trainspotters” as it provides a real family day out at a reasonable cost. There is around 20 acres of parkland and woodland to explore, ideal for a family picnic. The trains run along about ¾ mile of track and are always on the go providing rides to visitors at no extra cost, it’s nearly as busy as the Island of Sodor! The museum contains a wide range of Victorian engineering and transport examples but also includes an extensive model railway and a child’s wood railway that the little ones can play with, colouring stations are provided. All helps to keep the children amused. Some open days have juggling “classes” and face painting.
The locomotives on show and in use include 10 steam and 10 diesel units and a range of rolling stock. Some traction engines and old cars and vans are also on show. Enough to keep the enthusiasts occupied for a relaxing few hours. Homemade cakes and sandwiches available in the tea room as well as ice creams.
A day out at BWLR will keep the kids amused for the whole day – even the larger more mature types.
