Anne Hathaway's Cottage
This lovely straw-thatched cottage where William Shakespeare courted his future wife, is nestled amongst beautiful cottage gardens and traditional orchards. It is the most romantic of the five shakespeare houses in Stratford-upon-Avon and is well worth visiting.
Discover how the Hathaway family once lived five hundred years ago and hear the interesting and intriguing stories the experienced guides tell. Then take a stroll in the glorious nine-acre gardens which include a lavender maze, willow arbours and Giant Willow sculptures. You’ll even get the chance to touch a Singing Tree and hear a magical soundscape of words and melody.
There are many events held near the cottage such as the Butterfly Trail, Sweet Pea Festival and Halloween where you will discover spooky goings on and Tudor superstitions.
Location Details: The site can be reached via a pleasant 1.3 mile walk from the town centre which takes approximately 30 minutes.
Opening Times: Daily throughout the year. Closed on Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
Costs: Entrance to the cottage is £9.00 for adults and £5.00 for children but it may be best to get a Shakespeare Five House Pass which now includes Shakespeare’s grave.
